Gun control advocates I've seen here are some of the most hypocritical people I've seen on the vine or elsewhere. Their stated goals and actions could not be more contradictory. Their denial of fact would be laughable if if there weren't so many of them. They're emotionally driven which rarely goes hand in hand with rationality.
They tell us they're concerned for public safety and try to convince us they're not after all guns.
Most murders are single victim crimes, the victim usually knew the killer and 1 to 3 shots are fired. Less than 5% have multiple victims and fewer than that involve the so called 'assault weapons'. 15% of murder 1980 to 2008 involved multiple attackers and single victims yet they focus on banning assault weapons and limiting magazines to 10 rounds.
They tell us 40% of firearms sold don't go through background checks. First of all, the earliest report I've seen with that figure was from the 90's, hardly relevant. Regardless, if there's no check, how do they know? Of course this is the hysteria over the gunshow 'loophole', ie: private sales of firearms. Most private sales in my experience isn't at gun shows. It's often between friends and acquaintances also involved in the hobby, through various forums. We are also not only exempt, but PROHIBITED from using the NICS system. Many of us would do background checks if we had the resources whether it was required or not. Many like myself will ask for a permit to purchase from a buy even though I'm not required to do so. Not all states have this. Internet sales by law must be shipped to a FFL and are subject to back ground checks.
Closing the 'loophole' would require national registration, which is prohibited under federal law for all non NFA weapons as per the Firearm Owners Protection Act which also banned any additional registration of machine guns. That was called compromise that you now want to renig on. They also don't suggest how they would enforce such a law without crushing the 4th amendment, not that they care anything about the constitution.
You tout 'gun free zones' yet with the exception of the Gabriel Gifford's shooting, all recent mass shootings have taken place IN 'gun free zones'. No sign or law will stop any would be murderer from murdering but after removing the rights of law abiding people to defend themselves, you want to cry the victim rate is 'unacceptable'.
You claim there's no 'need' for magazines that hold X many rounds( usually 10), often in connection with hunting despite the fact the 2nd Amendment has NOTHING to do with hunting and without ANY evidence that said arbitrary number will reduce the murder rate. You claim it will reduce mass shootings without reducing our ability to defend ourselves despite the fact the one is FOUR times more likely to be a victim of multiple attackers than to be one of multiple victims.
There is no interest in public safety. There is only an agenda to disarm those who might disagree with the liberal platform. The hypocrisy is on the side of those politicians who stand with armed guards at their sides, some of whom even carry themaelves (Feinstein), while telling us OUR ownership of guns puts US in danger. It also stands on the shoulders of those who blindly, ignorantly and irrationally support them.http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/index.cfm?ty=pbdetail&iid=2221
