The Riot Act

One again senseless riots erupt after the loss of a championship game, this time in Vancouver after losing the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Then came the predictable apologies from the team and others calling Vancouver a 'World class city with world class people'. I'm going to call bull$#!t. It takes world class people to make a world class city and world class people don't riot, period. This isn't just a handful of drunks, this is thousands of people lost in the mob mentality of rage and rampage.

What makes a mob of people do things they wouldn't do one their own? The answer is nothing except for the lessened fear of getting caught. No 'World Class' people would ever turn over a police car, loot a business or start fires, just because 'everyone is doing it'. Somehow we've evolved into people who don't hold ourselves accountable for our actions and the proof comes from the apologies on behalf of these 'world class' morons.

I'm not going to pretend that these idiots are limited to Vancouver or Canada, they are... EVERYWHERE. Montreal, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Los Angelas and even Denver have seen riots not to mention the numerous soccer riots in Europe and elsewhere.

People in Algeria riot because they can't pay for food. In China they riot over political oppression. Those are real issues that affect peoples' lives and when things get bad enough, you fight back. 'World Class' people DO NOT riot over a hockey game or any other sport.

I echo that sentiment. To riot over any sport game is beyond ridiculous.

They rioted in LA because the Lakers WON the championship. I don't think it's anger so much as it's just a party. How it becomes a good idea, to so many, I'll never understand.

What I Want To Know Is ...

when 'real' riot unfolded at the G-20, did anyone think to question whether police operatives did it?

Less fear of getting caught and because it is harder to go against the group. I don't go groups for exactly that reason. I've been caught and hurt in a crowd.

The situation in Vancouver, scary ! How to stop future riots ? Don't know because it can happen with the smallest provocation. Did you see the picture of the "kissing couple" ?
