Are We Really Having This Debate?

Recently I've noticed the ongoing debate here on the vine about what is and what is not combat and what is and what is not war. Are we really discussing this?

Bombs are being dropped and missiles launches but because there are no 'Boots on the Ground', there is no combat, no war. Imagine living near a military institution when suddenly a Cruise Missile screaches overhead and slams into it. The sky lights up with fire, the air fills with smoke and your neighborhood has fallen into chaos... Every one of your cit's emergency services are now tied up butyou have nothing to worry about though, it's not combat, and there is no war.

I guess in the 60's we over reacted. So what if the U.S. and Russia had their trigger fingers on the nuclear launch button. Every major city in both countries instantly vaporized but thankfully, no combat, no war, no 'Boots on the Ground'.

Boots on the Ground... if we have an NFL season I wonder if some team will chant THAT this year...

It seems silly when people are dying at the hands of military operations that we are confused about what is and what isn't combat and war.

COH please.

Korea was never declared, and last I checked Truman was never threatened with being impeached. As a UNSC action it is as legitimate as it gets.

It is not a declared war because the UNSC authorized it, an entirely legitimate body for such action. The President has 60 days to either end the combat or ask for congressional approval.

What was you're original point again? I don't think anyone is denying that there isn't conflict, it just hasn't met the required criteria requiring Congress to declare war.

I'm not talking about what is a 'declaration of war, that's a different debate. But declared or not bombing people is warfare, warfare is combat, Boots on the ground or not.
